RED…WHITE…AND BLUE! AMERICA!! Happy 4th of July. For the holiday weekend, here’s a cool, creamy treat that is a spectacle of Red, White and Blue…Low Carb Strawberry Cheesecake Popsicles (that are also Sugar Free)! I hope the sun is shining wherever you may be and you’re enjoying a relaxing, fun-filled holiday weekend.
Every time a holiday weekend rolls around, I think to myself…Yes! We will get a break even if it’s just a mini stay-cation. However, with an almost 4 and 6 year old, we don’t really get much of a break. At least not the “all-inclusive” type vacation getaway that Corey and I dream about when we know a holiday weekend is near. Honestly, it’s not even the simple fact that we have two toddlers grabbing our attention constantly, we have a third baby that we rarely talk about (at least when it comes to challenges)…ZenSweet.
I may be one of the rare food bloggers that not only writes recipes, takes pictures (not too easy for the untrained novice) and attempts as much social outreach as possible, but as you know, also sells ZenSweet and ZenSweet Baking mixes. And when I say ‘sell’ ZenSweet, it’s not just selling that I do. I truly love experimenting with healthier ways to cook, eat and live. So on top of sales (no small feat in and of itself), I formulate all of ZenSweet products myself. Collectively Corey and I handle sales, social outreach, packaging, marketing, sourcing of ingredients, certification compliance, web-site development and probably a few more things I’m forgetting at the moment. We pretty much eat, breath and sleep ZenSweet. We are building this business from nothing and many people don’t talk about the challenges, the hardships and the growing pains.
For a long time I’ve kept the dialogue on the ZenSweet Life Blog very easy going like having a conversation about the weather with a stranger. Today, I decided, it’s time to get real. I don’t know why, don’t know what hit me? Maybe it’s slight sleep deprivation, being overworked, or just the prospect of new growth for ZenSweet. We have big things on the horizon as Corey and I are (finally) seeing some breakthrough with sales. We had some great sales meetings this past week, and I don’t want to shout from the rooftops yet, but ZenSweet products are about to have a much bigger market presence.
So, I decided I really need to talk more about the trials we go through as entrepreneurs. It’s real world shark tank over here, I can assure you. This morning after being awake from 3 am-5 am with our 3 year old, I was exhausted, and then it was off to a kids birthday party. The birthday party was adorable and super fun, but while we’re there, I’m busy crunching numbers for some new sales channels. After the party, we head home to get the kids a nap. At this point, on only a few hours of sleep myself, all I want to do is nap, but I’m here writing this blog post. What am I getting at!?! Basically even though it’s a holiday weekend, we don’t really take a holiday here. I used to get upset about it, but as an entrepreneur through and through I wouldn’t have it any other way. It’s not easy, but we figure it out, we push through and we keep the faith that it’s another day in the direction of growing this business into something big.
I feel blessed to be with my family and children a lot if not most of the time. I am thankful that my career (and hopefully income soon) comes from a true labor of love. And I am immensely grateful that I have the opportunity to own my own business and grow something from nothing. This is an experience that is like no other even if I still battle family members rolling their eyes over the validity and potential of our business. Despite the challenges, not everyone has the opportunities that we do in this country (even if things are a little mixed up politically these days). It’s the land of the Free! And I try to take time everyday to remember how lucky we are!
In challenging times, which is like every other hour around our house, we can always go back to feeling gratitude. It’s simple but it seems to help me. It also doesn’t hurt that after hours of slaving over a new recipe and photos for posts like these Low Carb Strawberry Cheesecake Popsicles we have something delicious to eat. We hope you love this spin on Sugar Free Pops as much as we did, they’re almost better than fireworks!
